Review by PASTEPUNK.com of Sons of Azraels

Thanks to www.pastepunk.com for the review:

Buffalo, New York’s SONS OF AZRAEL have made it to their second full-length for Ironclad Recordings, and the improvement over Conjuration of Vengeance could not be more obvious. This is a hard band to place on the metal spectrum – elements of death metal, metalcore, thrash, and grind all work their way into Scouting the Boneyard, and no one particular style dominates over the rest, with the exception of grind’s minimal but smartly placed impact. Two particulars to the recording impress – the standout quality of the demonic growled/howled vocals, which retain a surprising amount of lucidity (think of ARCH ENEMY’s Angela Glassgow), and the kickass, dirty production style that is 1000x opposite the fake drums and overly compressed guitars that dominate most modern metal recordings (DESPISED ICON are one of the worst offenders). The organic recording feels much more timeless and immersible to the listener and combined with the relatively short running time (11 songs, 34 minutes), Boneyard takes off and rockets away. “Grand Design” is one of album’s highlights with its shifty technical bent (reminds me of GLASS CASKET), wicked guitar squeals, and double-time manic drumming outro. Not to slight Ironclad at all, but Scouting the Boneyard has the quality of a Relapse record, and that’s probably the best compliment that I can give it.
Sons of Azraels

Be sure to check out the sophomore release by Buffalo's melodic death metallers Sons of Azrael "Scouting the Boneyard". This album takes on a darker turn musically and lyrically and is for fans of many different styles of extreme metal. "Scouting the Boneyard" is available in stores everywhere and most online distributors today!!

Hailing from the depths of Buffalo, NY... Sons Of Azrael are back and working harder than ever on their crusade of rendering the fakes powerless, keeping the skeptics at bay, and turning heads in countless parts of the country. Turning non believers into strong followers while decimating the boundaries between both the old and new schools of death and thrash metal.

With the current polished trends of the mainstream music industry at an all time low, The Sons have decided to turn it up a notch and bring it back to the days of old.. exploring the deep organic sounds of early death and black metal while tredding in new waters with paralyzing lyrics and a dynamic rhythm and percussion approach, the newest album 'Scouting the Boneyard' in stores and itunes January 2010 via Ironclad Recordings will prove once again that Sons Of Azrael are still doing their civic duty to keeping American metal true and unscathed in their heavy and progressive sound.

Since the 2007 debut album, 'The Conjuration Of Vengeance' released via Ironclad/Metalblade records, Sons Of Azrael have brought their sound all across the continent and in the midst of their journey, have also evolved as musicians just as much as their roster. As of 2009 they have added lead guitarist Karl Kirsch and drummer Alex Chambers to the mix, helping to develop the many new audible changes that have helped transform the sound of the SOA into a well dressed torture chamber for the mind and soul. Original members; vocalist and lyrical mastermind Joseph Siracuse, guitarist and songwriter Tony Lorenzo, and bass guitarist Rob Steinwandel have all returned through blood, sweat and tears working very hard by putting their talents to the test and putting their money where their mouths are for the newest effort, 'Scouting the Boneyard' which the band is preparing to bring to the road and to fans across the world in the year of 2010.

This is a new era for metal across the nation....

METAL SUCKS.NET TO STREAM THE DESTRO FULL-LENGTH “HARMONY OF DISCORD”

The Destro’s new full-length Harmony Of Discord will be streamed in it’s entirety on Metal Sucks.net this Wednesday.

The band is currently on tour with It Dies Today and Arsonists Get All The Girls until the 19th. Info at www.myspace.com/thedestro

Their debut As The Coil Unwinds was released in 2007 and received praise from the metal elite including national publications such as Outburn who said “The band harkens back in time when renegades like Metallica wrote grand masterpieces of metal compositions… pure metal sans the trends and flashy gimmickry.”

The usually reserved Decibel Magazine whole heartily concurred saying “The Destro nailed it pretty spectacularly from the percussive drum production and groove-heavy song tempos to the raw-throated vocals and squealy drop-tuned guitar riffs.” Following release was a never ending series of live shows and tours nationwide including Ozzfest last year.
STARRING JANET LEIGH unleashes new music video for the song "Ex You" on MySpace Metal!

STARRING JANET LEIGH unleashes new music video for the song "Ex
You" on MySpace Metal!
Los Angeles, CA, October 5, 2009 – The
Canadian metal outfit STARRING JANET LEIGH has just unleashed a brand
new music video for the track Ex You and are set to premier it on
MySpace Metal. The track Ex You is off their Ironclad Recordings debut
Spectrum, which just came out May 12th 2009 to rave reviews from
metalheads and critics alike. Metalers can check out the new video
starting Tuesday October 6th at MySpace Metal

HERE
and don't forget to check out the bands

MySpace page
, which was recently redesigned and features music, tour
dates, band news and more.

Here's what guitarist Matt Zadkovich
had to say about the video for Ex You: “We wanted Ex You to be our first
video because felt it to be a short & sweet, honest, in your face
representation of the band and the album. It was filmed in our dank hole
of a jam space, which we felt was perfect for the shoot to show who SJL
is and what we're all about it. We wanted the video to showcase how the
live experience with SJL is, shooting in a place we're all too familiar
with. It was filmed over the course of 3 days with our good friend Mike
Molloy from Static Studios here in Toronto. Mike's input on this video
was invaluable and we're stoked to release it. Enjoy!”

Here's
what critics have been saying about STARRING JANET LEIGH:
Like Norman
Bates with his kitchen knife, these five Canadians slice their way
through several musical boundaries, including death metal, hardcore,
jazz, progressive, and fusion, with unfettered vengeance and
vehemence…delivered with surgical precision.” Outburn magazine

“…an incredible nine-song set of genre-bending adventure that places
them firmly in a class that includes Candiria, Between the Buried and
Me, and Mr. Bungle before them.” Fangoria.com

“…the chugging
section that leads into the clear cloud break is perfect; you can
imagine a pit devouring it live, even the brief Mr Bungle passage works.
The vocals too are excellent, while the drums, as usual with these guys,
are spit-fire.” Blistering.com

“…there's a tantalizing 70s
progressive rock element that keeps creeping into their music, as if
Frank Zappa and Robert Fripp are trying to bust into a jam between
Psyopus and Every Time I Die.” Hellbound.ca

“Spectrum is a
mind-warping debut album that will impress some and leave others
clueless…Chaotic and unpredictable…Like The Dillinger Escape Plan on
speed, or a technical death metal band gone haywire, STARRING JANET
LEIGH is the sound of five guys completely out of control and enjoying
every minute of the ride. Spectrum is a wild debut album, one that isn't
content to stick to a formulaic design.” About.com

“Hyperactive
technicality, schizophrenic speed, and a whole lot of extreme make up
Canada's STARRING JANET LEIGH and their latest album, Spectrum. You
better chug a few Monster Energy Drinks before you listen to this one,
because Spectrum is one hell of a thrill ride from start to finish.
Seeing the current brutality coming out of Canada, STARRING JANET LEIGH
fits in perfectly with the likes of Beneath The Massacre, Ion
Dissonance, and Despised Icon…” 8/10 SMNnews.com

“Progressive
jazz-technical death metal is quite the moniker, but it fits here.
STARRING JANET LEIGH relentlessly mixes extreme death metal with
jazz…pushing boundaries, mixing music genres, and challenging the
listener.” MetalUnderground.com

“The music is not just simply a
strict dichotomy of jazz and technical death metal. The jazz influences
the metal, and the metal influences the jazz. Instead of the standard
wall of sound and constant crushing guitars and drums, the death metal
features complex rhythmic and melodic themes constantly intertwining and
changing. Each instrument can be heard weaving in and out of the others,
and the moments when they all come together are pure bliss.”
MetalUnderground.com

“Spectrum is unbelievably heavy,
extraordinarily fast, and incredibly pissed off. Fans of the Death Metal
genre will truly dig this album; it is one of the better ones that I
have heard in this genre this year if for no other reason than at least
STARRING JANET LEIGH have thought outside the box by adding a bit of
unexpected variety.” 8/10 PureGrainAudio.com

Armed for Apocalypse review on Ultimate-Guitar.com

Sound: The members of Armed For Apocalypse want to make something perfectly clear before scores of listeners hear the up-and-coming metal band’s debut record: They’re not attempting to break any records out there for speed or technical virtuosity. A sample quote from the quartet’s bio states, “If you're looking for guitar aerobics or drum clinics, try the DVD section at Guitar Center, because Armed for Apocalypse has nothing for you.” That’s not to say that there aren’t any chaotic moments in terms of tempo on their new record Defeat, but the band usually delivers their “peak” musical moments in other ways. If you enjoy the low, grinding sludge sound or even an occasional Maiden-esque riff, you’ll find plenty to like about Armed For Apocalypse.
